~Master and the Mate~

Kyle was reading the classified ads in the Daily News looking for a job.
He kept questioning himself as he felt he was wasting his time since most
of the ads required either special training or experience. Yet his eyes
kept drifting back to the same ad seeking a deckhand for a yacht which was
docked in a marina near White Plains on the Long Island Sound. He couldn’t
help wondering why the phone number listed was a local call. ‘What the
hell,’ he thought to himself, ‘what do I have to lose?’, so he called and
made an appointment with the owner’s secretary.

Dr. Ryan Loud was a retired psychologist, although he had not reached
retirement age; but his unmarried older brother had died and left him his
yacht. Ryan had worked hard both as a counselling and teaching
psychologist. Like his brother, he had never married, as a result of his
awareness of his homosexual tendencies from an early age: he had known his
true sexuality from about the age of twelve. He had experimented several
times in his youth, but once he’d graduated with his doctorate he just
became immersed in his work; quickly becoming very highly respected by his
colleagues due to his publications in his field. To keep in touch with the
real world outside his specialised academic enclave, he saw an occasional
client when an interesting referral from one of his colleagues came along.
